Instructor Bios



Melanie Vitale

Melanie Vitale is the proud owner of X-CEL Athletics Chesterland and Co-Owner of X-CEL Erie. Melanie has been involved with the sport of cheerleading for over 35 years. She is also a certified Fitness Instrutor and Certified Water instructor. She is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a degree in Business Administration. She has been a Certified Financial Planner since 1995. Melanie’s other certifications include: USASF, AACCA Cheer Safety, CPR, American Red Cross Exercise, ZUMBA and Aquatics Exercise Association.


Karen Kaluzny

Karen has over 20 years of cheerleading experience and is decorated with many national titles and choreography awards.  She has worked in all aspects of cheerleading, from school cheer to teaching camps to hosting cheer competitions to judging competitions.  She has coached at Seneca High School, Gannon University and Penn State Behrend College.  She was also the head competitive coach at Gannon for both their cheer and dance teams.  Most recently, Karen was an all-star coach at Millcreek Cheer-n-dance.  We are very excited to have Karen coaching at both of our X-CEL locations.  Karen is married to Michael Kaluzny and is an insurance adjuster in Erie.

Bob Vallarelli

Bob has been with X-CEL Athletics Cheer and Tumbling Academy since they opened their doors in April 2011. He has a vast knowledge of gymnastics and tumbling. He has worked on a competitive level teaching children of all ages the basics thru the advanced level skills. Bob started in gymnastics and wrestling at the Cleveland YMCA and later became a coach for many years of All Star and All American teams for YMCA and AAU. He has put together programs in several area city recreation centers preparing those athletes to compete at the High School and the College levels.  He has been teaching, coaching and officiating sports for the last 25 years. Coach Bob reconnected with teaching tumbling at X-CEL Athletics because his daughter Nycole was a member of the completive Cheerleading teams.

Bob still referee’s for High school, College and International style of wrestling and is the state Mat Officials Director for USA Ohio Wrestling. He is employed full time as a property manager for REIT Management & Research, Inc located in Solon Ohio.


Tracy Zarzour

Tracy has competed in advanced gymnastics from the age of 8.  Her specialty included floor routines with the highest level of tumbling skills.  She has over 20 years of coaching experience in the gymnastics and cheer industry.  She has been with X-CEL Athletics since we opened our doors and has led her teams to multiple national championships.  Tracy is from Chardon, Ohio, where she lives with her husband Sam and 2 children. Tracy is USASF credentialed and loves being a part of X-CEL.


Guy Turner

Guy Turner is a 2001 Berea High graduate with letters in football and baseball. He has been working with children of all ages since the age of 14. He went on to play college baseball at Mercyhurst Northeast and earned an associate degree in early childhood education, then he went on and cheered for Cleveland State University and earned a bachelor degree in early childhood education. While at CSU he began to get more involved in coaching cheerleading, shortly after that he became USASF credentialed in level 1-5 in tumbling and stunting. Guy started out as a tumbling coach and last year became part of Youth 1 Velocity. Guy currently plays hardball in a men’s league, gets plenty of exercise at the rec center, and actively participates in coed stunting.

Gianna Dickerson

Gianna began her love for dance and cheer at a very young age as an Erie, PA native. She received a great deal of training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acro, Lyrical, Pom, Hip Hop and Gymnastics. Gianna has 11 years of experience dancing and cheering in the All-Star industry. She traveled in and out of state earning Regional, National and Grand Champion titles. She received the opportunity to compete at the Dance Worlds in Orlando Florida as a Senior Co-Ed Hip-Hop team member. She also had the rewarding opportunity to coach as well as work with a Special Needs Dance Team for a year that traveled to local competitions. Gianna was also a team member of American Elite of Ohio’s Level 5 All Star World’s Cheer team. She was captain for two out of the four years at McDowell High School, in both cheerleading and dance. Gianna was a member of the Cleveland State University’s Cheerleading squad and has been a staff member of Champion Cheer Central for the last two years which she has gained tremendous travel plus hands on experience of what the All Star industry entails. Gianna has very high expectations of expanding her experiences with X-Cel Athletics teams!


Kasey Eichele

Kasey Eichele graduated from Chardon High School in 2014 along with completing the Sports Medicine program at Auburn Career Center. Kasey spent 16 years in competitive gymnastics finishing as a Level 9 training 10 gymnast. Kasey’s individual gymnastics accomplishments include multiple club state championships along with being a Chardon high school State qualifier. 2012 to 2014 Kasey was a key participant on the Chardon Competitive Cheerleading squad and enjoyed earning 3 national titles.

Kasey has a passion for coaching both gymnastics and cheer and has been a part of our coaching staff for 3 years. Kasey is also a competitive team coach at Lake Erie Gymnastics and is also a high school cheerleading coach at Riverside HS. Kasey holds multiple coaching & safety certifications and is continually working on further qualifications.

Outside of athletics Kasey enjoys spending time with her family and friends, the beaches of North Carolina and of course her English Bulldog Diesel.

Mallory Ortiz

Allstar Program Director- Mallory started her cheerleading career in Lima, Ohio where she cheered 8 years of all-star and 4 years at her high school. In 2008 she joined Step One as a member of the Large Coed 5 team that placed 9th at the World Championships.
Mallory has an extensive and varied coaching background.
 She spent 4 years as a lead cheer camp instructor for COA where she taught all-star and school cheer camps to all ages. Mallory coached the State Champion LCC High School Competitive team for 3 years and most recently was named the head coach and program director for Thomas Worthington High School. She joined Step One’s coaching staff in 2010. In her years at Step One she has coached a variety of teams in every level (1-5). Her teams have earned numerous specialty awards, national titles, and grand champion titles throughout the years including at prestigious international events such as UCA and WSF. In recent post-season events she has coached our worlds semi-finalist team and our Summit Silver Champion team.
Mallory has a bachelors degree from The Ohio State University in Health Management with a minor in Adolescent Development. She is CPR/AED and First Aid Certified. She is also USASF credentialed in tumbling, stunts, and baskets in levels 1-5. Mallory has a huge passion for this industry and is excited to work with the athletes at Step One North while also coaching at the Step One Allstars Columbus location.
